Balkan Environmental Initiatives
You are eating at a restaurant that takes green initiatives seriously.
The Balkan Restaurant is part of an organics diversion pilot program with the Town of Banff. Initiated in the Summer of 2008 we have diverted, on average, one ton of biodegradable waste from landfills per month. We are also test piloting innovative LED technologies to reduce the energy consumption of our lighting by up to 90%. Also, our take out containers are made from biodegradable products. These initiatives will save hundreds of metric tons of greenhouse gases from being released into the earth’s atmosphere every year.
You may have noticed that we don’t serve straws with our drinks unless requested. In order to reduce our consumption we have chosen to provide straws only upon request. Our straws are a biodegradable corn-starch based product thereby reducing our dependence on plastics.
We are also pleased to offer our customers a selection of certified organic wines and as new products come onto the market check out our dinner and lunch menus for certified organic products. Thank you for your support.
